This morning, I learned how to install a water heater into a home, through observing of course. Dealing with my landlord has not been pleasant, however, the plumber from the water heater company was a great company. The soldering he had to do to reconnect old and new pipes, the improvisations, the stand, everything was very hands-on technical. The questions I asked pertained to what materials he was using, like flux, the water heater regulations pertaining to the state, why the 18″ requirement for the lowest thermostat, why the need for straps, where to use the teflon tapes and the electrical tapes, and various others. One can really learn a handful of hands-on, technical engineering skills from professionals as such, and even hear funny stories too.
